Über/about Yusimi Moya Rodriguez

Yusimi Moya Rodriguez (*1987) studierte zeitgenössischen Tanz auf der Kunsthochschule (Escuela Nacional de Artes) in Havanna, Kuba. Nach dem Diplom als „Bailarina y Profesora de Danza Moderna y Folklorica” arbeitete sie im „Conjunto Folklórico Nacional de Cuba”, dem berühmten staatlichen Folkloreballett, das sich seit der Revolution speziell dem afrokubanischen Erbe der Insel widmet. Später wurde sie Solotänzerin der Tanzkompanie Ebony, wo eine Mischung aus Ballett, Modern Dance und afrokaribischen Traditionen die Grundlage für den typisch kubanischen zeitgenössischen Tanz bildeten. Sie arbeitete mit Choreographen wie Osnel Delgado (Mal Paso), Alberto Mendez (Ballet Nacional) oder Isidro Rolando Thondike (Danza Contemporanea). Seit 2013 lebt und arbeitet Yusimi Moya Rodriguez in Wien. Sie inszenierte ihr erstes Tanzstück im Rahmen von „Points of Passage” im Stift Melk und wurde am „Wien Welt Wettbewerb” als zeitgenössische Tänzerin ausgezeichnet. Sie erhielt ein Arbeitsstipendium des Vereines „Kültürgemma” und entwickelte ein neues Tanzstück, das 2017 seine Premiere in Wien hatte. Mit nadaproductions (Amanda Piña und Daniel Zimmermann) tanzte sie am Impulstanz Festival, im Tanzquartier Wien, deSingel und STUK, Belgien, Cofestival, Slowenien und mit Tanzcoop in Kosmos Theater Wien. Sie war Teil des Ensembles im Musical „Carmen Cubana” am Deutschen Theater, München, unter der Choreografie von Kim Duddy. Sie unterrichtet regelmässig in Wien und auf Tanzfestivals in Europa.

Yusimi Moya Rodriguez (*1987) studied contemporary dance on arts university (Escuela Nacional de Artes) in Havana, Cuba. After her graduation as “Bailarina y Profesora de Danza Moderna y Folklorica“ she worked at the “Conjunto Folklórico Nacional de Cuba”, the famous state-run folkloric ballet. Founded after the Revolution their work is dedicated especially to the Afro-Cuban dance heritage. Later she was solo dancer at the dance company Ebony, where ballet, Modern dance and afro-caribbean styles blend together to form the typical Cuban contemporary expression. She worked together with the choreographers Osnel Delgado (Mal Paso), Alberto Mendez (Ballet Nacional) or Isidro Rolando Thondike (Danza Contemporanea de Cuba). Since 2013 Yusimi Moya Rodriguez is living and working in Vienna. She staged her first dance piece on the occasion of “Points of Passage“ at Melk Abbey und was awarded a prize as contemporary dancer at the “Wien Welt Wettbewerb“. She received a working grant from the cultural association “Kültürgemma“ and presented her new dance piece in 2017. With nadaproductions (Amanda Piña and Daniel Zimmermann) she was dancing at the Impulstanz Festival, Tanzquartier Wien deSingel and STUK, Belgium, Cofestival, Slovenia und Tanzcoop in Kosmos Theater Vienna. She was part of the ensemble of the musical “Carmen Cubana“ at “Deutsches Theater”, Munich, under the choreography of Kim Duddy. She is teaching regularly in Vienna and dance festivals in Europe.
